| How
Server Consolidation Pays off |
From
small start-up companies to rapidly expanding firms
with enterprise-caliber requirements, blade servers
make sense. Consolidation – a design
philosophy integral to the Intel Blade Server product
line – gives organizations a tool to maximize
the use of their available computing resources. Consolidation,
through the features of Intel Blade Servers, lets
organizations:
- Concentrate the processing
power of numerous standalone server units into
a single, power-efficient chassis with built-in
redundancy and failover.
- Manage blade server resources,
as well as other network components and external
servers, using a single, comprehensive server
management tool (Intel® Server Manager)
and supporting module (Intel® Management
Module).
- Maximize uptime with remote
management tools, predictive failure analysis,
hot-swappable modules, power and thermal management
utilities, and other advanced features.
- Rely on Intel® Virtualization
Technology to run multiple operating systems,
application environments, and software stacks
on a single Intel® processor-based
computing blade. Hardware-assisted virtualization
and software-only solutions enable businesses
to utilize processing resources more efficiently
while running numerous, mission-critical applications
on one server.
- Allocate resources dynamically
and take advantage of the broad availability
of standards-based components to strengthen,
scale, and extend computing resources within
one or more chassis.
- Simplify security concerns
by consolidating all of the hardware to be
protected within a single unit where access,
encryption mechanisms, and oversight can be
more effectively managed.
Businesses worldwide
are recognizing the advantages and benefits of blade
server technology and the built-in dependability
offered by solutions grounded in Intel blades platforms
and Intel management solutions. |

Efficiency of Blade Servers |
As
America becomes increasing concerned about our energy
future, new light is being focused on the power consumed
by our ever expanding data centers. There
is pending legislation on Capital Hill (H.R. 5646)
that will direct the EPA, through its Energy Star
Program, to conduct a study of the "migration
to the use of energy efficient microchips and servers
designed to provide energy efficient computing." Many
federal data center managers have already embraced
blade servers as a means to reduce power consumption
and cut costs.
Intel Blade
Servers offer efficiencies of two to four times
the performance–per–watt of previous
platforms. And with decreased power consumption,
cooling loads are reduced, resulting in even further
reductions in overall energy consumption.
