The Implementation Advantage: How Dan Evans Sets Customers Up for Long-Term Success
When an organization adopts new automation technology, especially in complex, compliance-driven environments, success isn’t just about the software. It’s about how well that software is implemented, understood and adopted.
That’s where Dan Evans comes in. As a Senior Systems Engineer on SteelCloud’s white glove Enterprise Implementation Services team, Dan provides the bridge between purchasing ConfigOS and using it successfully on a day-to-day basis.
“It’s one thing to hand over instructions,” Dan explains. “It’s another to walk customers through the solution, make sure everything is configured correctly and set them up for success.”
That hands-on approach is becoming increasingly important as requirements grow more complex and the pace of compliance work intensifies. Organizations don’t just want powerful tools. They want confidence those tools will work in their environment and perform as promised at scale, without unnecessary friction.

A Career Built on Diverse Real-World Experience
Dan brings both a strong technical foundation and a unique set of skills to SteelCloud from his previous role at Dataprise, a managed service provider.
“We had our hands in everything—deployments, migrations, upgrades and troubleshooting across a wide range of client environments” he says. “Most of those were Windows environments and there are a lot of underlying Windows technologies that need to be working correctly for ConfigOS to work.”
Having that thorough understanding of not just ConfigOS, but the environment it operates within, gives Dan a depth of perspective that translates to faster troubleshooting, smoother implementations and a clearer anticipation of customers’ needs.
Finding a Different Way to Serve Customers at SteelCloud
Much of Dan’s previous experience in IT and managed services was in the private sector and he’s noticed a couple key differences now that he’s serving more government and defense customers.
“In the private sector, I have worked in environments where it’s like the CEO’s kid set everything up, and I’ve also worked in multinational organizations run by huge IT teams. You never know what you’re going to get,” he explains. “But on the government side, there’s more structure, process and consistency on the IT teams. You’re working with highly capable, well-organized professionals, which makes a big difference.”
That consistency allows conversations to move beyond foundational knowledge and focus on optimizing outcomes—something that benefits both the customer and the implementation team.
Another difference comes from working with compliance frameworks in the private sector, including in healthcare and financial environments.
“In those spaces, compliance was often manual and tedious—running scans, reviewing reports, addressing issues one-by-one and fixing the things that break in the process,” he notes. “With ConfigOS it’s more straightforward—here are the known vulnerabilities, our software will close them for you and then you’ll be compliant.”
Having seen compliance from manual, semi-automated and fully automated angles gives Dan a keen understanding of where customers are in their journeys and the challenges that can be solved with a unified solution like ConfigOS when it comes to audit readiness and continuous compliance.
Why Communication and Focus Matter So Much in Software Development
For Dan, SteelCloud’s strength is that it’s not a company with hundreds of employees. Its size keeps communication strong.
“There are two halves to any piece of software—how it works and how people use it,” Dan explains. “Both are important. And here, there’s a clear feedback loop between the customer, the people in the field and the developers building the product that can result in changes actually being available in the next set of updates.”
Another strength is that SteelCloud does one thing and it does it exceptionally. “I’m not jumping between completely different systems and environments anymore,” he says. “Now it’s about getting really, really good at one thing and delivering it well.”
Being able to have that kind of focus in a company where customer feedback translates directly into product improvements makes the workday easier for Dan. Plus, he notes, “the software itself works really well. It’s easy to support and advocate for something that you like.”
Dan’s Tinkering with Technology Continues Through the Night
Dan enjoys working remotely from his home in Maryland where he balances life with his wife and their two young children – as well as two dogs, a cat, and three turtles – with a wide range of hands-on hobbies.
A longtime hockey player, Dan recently joined a team with friends from high school and now plays multiple times a week.
He’s also an avid 3D printing enthusiast, commanding a farm of printers that create everything from functional household items to intricate replicas from video games. He enjoys the creativity and problem-solving that comes with building something from scratch, however, “I’ve definitely reached the point where it’s a bit of an obsession,” he jokes.
That same passion for toying with technology extends to a specialty side business he has co-founded where you can program automotive lights to perform aftermarket feats of wonder. And he has also created an AI agent for his own personal use to replace Alexa in his home.
If ConfigOS places you in Dan’s orbit, be sure to ask him your toughest questions or bounce your burning “what ifs” off him.
